Three Legged Race

Three Legged Race is one of the fun kids outdoor party games. It takes teamwork and coordination to win this relay race!

This is another classic played for generations and generations!

It's not just for kids!

Have mom and daughter or father and son pair up.

Get ready for some laughs as you turn 4 legs into 3 and race other teams!

It may be awkward at first, but you'll get the hang of it.

This should be played on the grass.

You want a softer surface in case kids trip and fall down.

It's bound to happen!

4 or more players
Ages 6 and up
Need: sticks for making lines, scarf

Begin by making starting and finish lines on the grass about 40 feet apart. Sticks work fine.

Or use masking tape.

Players pair up with a partner, standing side by side, arms around each other's shoulders.

A scarf is tied loosely around one of each player's legs that are touching.

The teams stand behind the starting line and after hearing, "Ready, set, GO!" they begin making their way to the finish line.

Falling is to be expected and expect lots of laughs along the way.

At the finish line, the teams turn around and race back to cross the starting line. The first team back is the winner.

Teenagers may want a more challenging activity. If so, use 3 people on a team.

It takes even more teamwork, effort and coordination when 3 people are trying to race to a finish line!

It looks pretty funny, too!

For a variation, you can have the kids walk backwards to the finish line!

This is a lot harder, and the going may be a lot slower! But it will still be lots of fun!
