Capture the Flag is pure fun kids. It's great for recess games and picnic games.
Make the playing field, about 40 feet long, with a line going down the center.
Divide the players up into 2 teams with an equal number of kids. Each kid gets a bandanna and places it at the farthest end of their boundary.
They line up side by side on their side of the field.
The leader calls out, "One, two, three, GO!" and the play begins.
If a player gets a flag, she can take it back to her team's side without being tagged.
But if she gets tagged before she gets a flag, she's captured by the opposing team and stands behind that team's boundary line.
If a player saves his team's tagged players, he has to go back to his team's side of the field - and he can be tagged while he's attempting to get back there - before he can try and capture more flags or save any more players.
A player who's been saved by a player on her team, has to get back to her team's side of the field, too. She can get there without fear of being tagged on the way back.
Once she's back in her team's territory, she can then go out and try to capture flags.
The winning team of Capture the Flag is the team who captured all the opponent's flags.
Or the team who has the most flags after a certain amount of time has passed.
Have fun with this!
