Red Rover

This beloved classic children's game is great for younger kids.

Play it at home or at a picnic. It's a great game to introduce into gym classes for younger children.

Teachers will also find it the perfect game for recess breaks.

8 or more players
Ages: 6 and up

Safety first. Make sure to supervise kids when they're playing.

Divide the kids into 2 teams with the same number of players. Each team will choose a captain.

Players then form a circle with the team members standing beside each other and hold hands. Leave about 15 feet in the middle of the circle.

The captain of one team calls out a name of a player on the opposing team. He shouts out, "redrover, redrover send Cynthia over!"

Cynthia has to run as fast as she can over to the opponent's line of clasped hands, trying to break free of them.

If she breaks through, she selects a player from the other team. This player then joins her team.

If she doesn't break through, she becomes a member of the other team.

Play continues with the opposing team now calling out a name from the first team.

When one team has all players but one join its team, that team is the winner.

If a preset time has been chosen for when the game ends, the winning team will be the one with the most players at the end of that time.
