Punch Ball

Punch Ball is one of the fun outdoor games for kids and blacktop games.

6 or more players
Ages 8 and up
Need: tennis ball

Make the playing area. You can use chalk on pavement. Draw a triangle and home base, first base and second base. The bases should be 25 feet apart.

Each base will be at the point of a triangle.

Divide the players into 2 teams with an equal number of kids.

The fielding team takes their places in the field, with one player standing by 1st base.

The team batting chooses a captain to decide the batting order.

The first batter goes up to home plate, throws the ball in the air and hits it with his fist.

Or, you can have a pitcher who bounces the ball one time to the batter, who then hits it after the bounce.

If the batter misses the ball or causes it to go out of the playing area boundaries or behind his back, it's a strike. 3 strikes and a batter is out.

The next batter bats and play continues. Any time the ball stays in bounds and in the field, the batter tries to make it to first base.

If it's a fly ball and is caught by the fielding team, the batter is out.

If it's a ground ball, the fielding player can throw the ball to the player at first base (who has his foot on the base), or he can tag the batter with the ball before he makes it to the base.

No throwing the ball at the batter.

The batter can continue running once he reaches 1st base if he thinks he has enough time. If he makes it back to home base, his team gets one point.

The next batter bats and play continues. If a player is on a base and the next batter hits a ground ball into the field, both players run the bases trying to make it home.

When a team gets three outs, they change places with the fielding team and the fielding team now bats.

After 5 innings, the team with the most points wins.

Have fun playing punch ball!
