Potato Game

The Potato Game is one of the fun relay games and outside games for kids. It's also good for kids party games.

6 or more players
Ages 7 and up
Need: potato for each player, 2 large spoons, chalk or sticks for making lines

Divide the kids into 2 teams with the same number of players.

Make starting and finish lines 35 feet apart. Place the potatoes on the finish line of each team.

Each team's players line up behind the starting line. The first player on each team gets a large spoon.

The leader calls out, "Ready, set, GO!" and the first player on each team runs to the finish line, puts a potato on his spoon using only the spoon, and quickly makes his way back to the starting line.

If he drops his potato, he picks it up, using only his spoon and continues on.

When he crosses the starting line, he passes his spoon on to the next player.

Play continues in this manner. The first team to retrieve all their potatoes wins.

To make this game even harder, have the players keep one hand behind their backs at all times.

They'll find they have to move more slowly in order to balance the potato on the spoon.

It's a great hand to eye coordination game as well as an agility, critical thinking and strategization game as they have to carefully plan their moves so the potato stays on their spoon!
