Jump Rope
Jump Rope is one of the fun blacktop games kids love.
This is a fun game that your parents and grandparents played.
You can buy ropes at stores or you can use ropes you may have at home.
3 or more players
Ages 6 and up
Need: rope
Rhythm and concentration are two important aspects of jumping rope. It's also a great exercise for kids and adults alike.
It's an activity used in most schools for gym class.
Two players hold one end of the rope. They swing it in a circular motion at the same time.
The rope should barely touch the ground and needs to be high enough for the third player to jump in.
The player runs under the rope and begins jumping when it goes over her head and touches the ground.
For good rhythmic moves, try hopping a second time after you hop over the rope. This keeps the motion going.
Once that player misses a jump, it is the next player's turn.
Each jumper counts the number of hops he makes and the player with the highest number is the winner.
The rope swinging can speed up or slow down, or go from clockwise to counter clockwise throughout the playing time.
Jumpers may try hopping on one foot.
Try having two players jump together. Depending on how long the rope is, 3 or even more players can jump at the same time!
Gym classes usually use longer ropes and as many as 6 or 7 kids can jump together!
