Fan Tan

Fan Tan (also called Sevens, Card Dominoes) is one of the cool strategy games for kids. The goal is to be the first player to get rid of her cards.

2 or more players
Ages 6 and up
Need standard deck of cards

Begin with each player picking a card. The highest card holder shuffles and deals all the cards, one at a time, face down. Some players may have more cards than others. It's a good idea to arrange your cards by value and suit. Aces are high here.

The player with the 7 of diamonds starts by laying it face up in the center. Each player has to build on that 7 to make a pile of diamonds in order of value.

The next player to the left can lay the 8 of diamonds, if he has it, on top of the 7 of diamonds. If he doesn't have the 8, he can put the 6 of diamonds underneath the 7. If he doesn't have the 6 of diamonds he can start a new pile with a 7 from a different suit. If he doesn't have that he has to pass. The player to his left then goes.

Cards can be added to the top or bottom of any pile. Hint! - save 7's for as long as you can. Also, hold on to 6's and 8's and play other cards first if you can. 6's and 8's prevent other players from adding to the top or bottom of the piles. But if you have an 8, 9 and 10 of the same suit it's probably okay to play them. Same with 4, 5 and 6 of the same suit.

The winner is the first player who gets rid of her cards. The game can continue if players want all the suits played up.
